Assisted living facilities
vary in cost, depending on room size, available services, and
many other factors. Fees can start at $1,000 a month,
increasing with level of care and services provided, to about
$3,000 a month. Many facilities also require a
non-refundable deposit.
While a nursing home typically costs
$75 to $235 per day, an assisted living facility, on average,
costs between $60 and $70 per day.
However, unlike nurisng homes,
Medicare does not pay for assisted living services, and most
facilities only accept private pay. Some states offer
assistance through Medicaid or Supplemental Security
Income. Some long-term insurance plans cover assisted
living, while some facilities offer subsidies and
financial aid.
