Information on Assisted Living
The services and activities
that are provided or arranged for in assisted living
facilities typically include:
- 24-hour supervision
- Three meals a day in a group dining
room
- Individualized services to promote
the quality of life and independence of the individual, such
as:
- Help with ADLs (Activities of Daily
Living, such as bathing, dressing, etc)
- Medication management, or help
with self-administration of medication
- Social services
- Supervision and assistance for
those with Alzheimer's or other dementias
and disabilities
- Recreational and spiritual
activities
- Exercise, beauty, and wellness
programs
- Laundry and linen service
- Housekeeping and maintenance
- Arrangements for
transportation
In most states, assisted living
facilities must be registered, licensed or certified, and must
go through the applicable processes for issuance of
initial licenses and for renewal of existing
licenses.
What is Aging in Place?
"Aging in place" is the term given to communities
that adjust to a residents changing needs and
conditions. They allow a resident to be exposed to
more services as the need dictates, without having to
look for a new facility, relocate, or adapt to new
settings.
